Buga National High School is the third biggest school in the municipality of Libon. It is situated in Barangay Buga, Libon, Albay, adjacent to Lake Bato, Camarines Sur, 7 km from the town proper, and motorcycles and tricycles are the means of transportation. The late Mr. Orlando F. Seva donated the tract of land it occupies during the time of Municipal Mayor Querobin Dycoco. An extension of land measuring 100 sqm was awarded by the local government of Libon, headed by Municipal Mayor Das V. Maronilla.
The present Buga National High School site used to be a vast land filled with tall and thick grass and bushes as well as marsh water. Upon diligent and dedicated pursuit of its founders, the ex-barangay captain of Mr. Rogelio Q. Rivera Sr. and his council, together with the support of Dr. Artemio Q. Rivera, who faithfully made the feasibility study and helped in the processing of other school documents, this idle land, which Mr. Orlando F. Seva donated was then prepared and developed into a center for learning that was led by its first School Head, Manuel Oloros. With just two classrooms made of nipa and bamboo poles and with or less hundred students and two teaching staff, the school was opened in 1993 as an extension school of the former School for Philippine Craftsman (SPC), which is now known as Bicol University Polangui Campus (BUPC) and was later attached at the Libon Agro-Industrial High School during the School Year 1996-1997.
Soon, through the growing number of elementary graduates coming from different elementary schools of neighboring barangays, the school was fed of enrollees from places like Alongong, Bariw, Nogpo, and Molosbolos aside from elementary graduates coming from its own barangay Buga. Each year, the number of students increased. Thus, the need to develop new buildings and classrooms, as well as the demand to have more teaching staff, arose. And so new classrooms were built to accommodate the emergent number of the school's clientele, and new teachers were employed.
After 12 long years of its snuggle to unselfishly and conscientiously render services to the community and to impart knowledge to produce competitive and skilled graduates, Buga High School became a government National High School in Albay Division and was officially separated from its mother school- Libon Agro-Industrial High School on July 7, 2005.
Despite the critical setbacks and precise times that the school had gone through, the unwavering dedication and faithful support of everyone who wants to preserve and help the school continually are all in all ready to take the day-to-day challenges in transforming the school to become an institution of learning which shall pursue the mission and vision of the Department of Education.
